The Nazare´Wave : A Trigger for Learning – Portuguese students show you how it works

Have you ever wondered what makes a huge wave…? Take the Nazare´ Wave, for example… what is it about the geology on the Portuguese coast that makes the Nazare´ Wave one of the largest waves ever seen, much less ridden…?

Well, thanks to Mafalda Marques Carapuço, a PhD Student in geology and coastal dynamics at Instituto Dom Luiz and a group of very bright high school students want to show you exactly what makes the Nazare´ Wave work.

The project “The Nazaré Wave: a trigger for learning” was developed with the goal of raising ocean literacy and capture the attention of young students for the importance of scientific knowledge integration in the ocean management.

The major output of this science outreach project is the movie, “The Nazaré Wave : a trigger for learning”, where 46 high school students present the simplified physics behind the Nazaré Wavethe highest wave ever surfed!

Contact Mafalda to contribute, congratulate or assist.

Now, after all that learning, take a look at the brave souls who manage to ride that massive Nazare´ wave presented by Red Bull.
